I have been working in the studio quite a bit. So there is some more work to show.
I am hoping to show later a quick summary video of the Unforgettable Faces Project soon. You won't believe what has been done in the last 2-3 years and how much progress that I have made to be a better artist. I am getting excited to find out how much more I can learn. I am thinking it will be a gallery style video. I find video a little (a lot) intimidating so I have to put on my big girl panties and go for it. I feel so wimpy, fragile and that does not feel good. I want to throw myself on the ground and stomp my feet, throw my arms about and scream I don't want to do it, but I have to grow up a bit and not do that,..... at least in public..... I need a cookie. Anyway, this woman had the most amazing and contagious smile. While I was in the park the other day here in Banos, Tungurahua, Ecuador, I went a little click-aholic because there were just so many people with amazing faces and expressing so much. For me, this gal has a prize winning smile. While I was painting, I had to smile the whole time. When I got her smile right, I was just about jumping for joy, because: just because it is a photo doesn't mean it will make a good painting or one small stroke of the brush can mess up the whole expression. so Yeah! Happy dance. I wish to remind those people here in Ecuador who are looking at my pictures, if you recognize any of these faces, I would love to be able to give the paintings to the owner of the faces or to their families (for free). So please contact me if you know who a certain face is. I love giving back and letting the people know that they are Unforgettable. Thank you. This painting was created using A3 Derwent watercolor paper for pencils, reeves gesso, 300 gsm/140lbs, Dr. PH Martin Bombay ink, Winsor and Newton watercolor markers. One of the reasons for doing the project is to give back to the people of Banos, Tungurahua Ecuador. I want to show them how wonderful they are and for an artist how inspiring they are. I love these people and I want to show them that through my art. The original painting always goes to the owner of the face or the family of the face.
I posted this portrait of this man, Luis, the other day and today was the day I got the honor to give it to him. I just had to share my experience with you all. Sorry if it ends up being kind of sappy, and over sensitive, but that is who I am. I introduced myself and I explained my personal project, "Unforgettable Faces Project." I said that often I pass through the park and see him working away in front of the church cleaning peoples shoes and chatting with them. He always seems to give his clients his all and says things that make them happy. He was nervous to shake my hand as it was covered in shoe polish, I grabbed his hand and shook it with both of mine. I told that kind of thing is nothing to worry about, I have messy hands too. He is a very happy, proud and spiritual man. He was gentle kind and said some very wonderful things to me and about my project to where he brought tears to my eyes. Finally, Luis said that he was going to give it to his mom because she loves him and he wanted to show he loves her. I told him that I was happy to help bring his mom joy when she has such a wonderful son. When I do a painting, I often think about what that person is like in reality and start to think about their life. It brings me closer emotionally to the painting and the person to help me bring the painting to life. He is absolutely everything his face tells you. Such a lovely kind person. This painting was created on A4 Canson 300 gpm/140lb multi paper, slathering of gesso, collage papers and Reeves Acrylic matte medium, Dr. P H Martin bombay ink, Winsor and Newton watercolor markers, signo white gel pen, black rotring ink in Rotring fountain pen. Photogenic is something that is a really rare thing. Some of the most beautiful people are just not photogenic. And of course there are some people from very humble origins that are gifted with it.
I took several pictures of this fellow in the park, and couldn't take one bad photo. I had a problem choosing the best one. I take LOTS of photos normally to get one good one. I think I could have just stood here all day and nothing but amazing photos. I think this fellow should actually be a model, he has character and grace and of course gifted with photogenics. The sad thing for me is that you could take photos of me all day and be lucky to get one good one. I have one of those personalities and faces that at the very last second my face loves to play practical jokes and does something very silly. I have a face that makes a great cartoon and can make people laugh.... not the same thing but equally as special. Canson multimedia A3 140lb/300gsm, a slathering of Reeves Gesso, Dr Ph Martin Hydrus watercolor, Windsor and Newton watercolor markers, signo white gel pen, Rotring black ink from Technical pen for the last 2 weeks I have been sooooooooooooooooooo sick. I still wanted to do the 52 week Illustration challenge but this was all the energy that I could muster up. That weeks theme was peacock. What can I say I was inspired by circumstances.
