Hey there, I just wanted to share an idea, that is not in my book yet that you all can use. As I live in Ecuador, I have found that the classic geli plate (for mono printing) made with glycerin and gelatin can grow mold when stored over time, which is yuck. In Ecuador, almost anything can grow mold! I even found it in my store bought acrylic molding paste. So what I do now as a monoplate is this: I take a simple picture frame about 8x10 inches. If you want bigger a bigger frame whatever. I tape it all around with packaging tape all around the outside edge, so nothing can escape between the bottom of the frame and a base like a piece of glass or ceramic tile. Cover the inside surface of the frame and base evenly with liquid dish soap, or a vegie oil. The inside space is your mold for the silicone, the soap or oil is a mold release as silicone wants to stick to everything. Then, in a washing tubbie filled with really soapy water. I cover my hands with liquid soap and empty a tube of silicone (a second tube may be needed depending on the size of the tube of silicone and the size of the inside of the frame) into the water. Silicone sticks to everything not soapy, so the key is make sure you are fairly liberal with the liquid dish soap. With your soapy hands, mold the silicone into a ball, whenever the silicone wants to stick to you more soap to you hands, when it is in a nice ball and not really sticking to anything, take the ball and mold it into your picture frame, press it evenly into your frame removing bubbles and filling the space well, then cover it with wax paper place a heavy flat book over the wax paper and let the silicone sit over night, remove book and wax paper, and let sit for a couple of days to a week. It stinks so I leave it outside or where it can air out. It should be firm to touch. Remove tape, and remove it out of the frame. If for some reason it had stuck to something you didn't want to, you can use a sharp blade to cut it. Wash off your mono plate and it is ready to be used. It is easy to clean and remove paint from it and lasts forever with no mold growth. Happy New Year present from me to you, please send me photos of your art using this method I would love to see your art work.

ok a wee change of plans, I will still be painting on Saturday at Libreria Vieira Arte-Ilusiones in Banos de Agua Santa, Ecuador South America, but I will be painting a large painting of a cougar with a cork screw tail instead of an Unforgettable Face. This is a photo of a cougar that I took while I was visiting the Banos de Agua Santa zoologico/zoo. I have never seen this before or after and never knew that cats could do this. Which makes me think, which muscles to they have to contract to do this to their tails, and what emotion causes them to feel that way? So would it change how we word something? I was so mad it made me corkscrew my tail? I am so annoyed i can feel my tail cork screwing as we speak.... Can his corkscrew his tail in the opposite direction? I have never been so preoccupied by an animals butt before, I find it highly distracting. Sorry I have an inquiry kind of mind. Maybe I shared to much.... but I can't help it.
I am finishing up a project that has tormented me for several years. I am not one to have any unfinished projects but here is the only one that I have. So to start this next year fresh, I am getting this one done. This is a cougar with a cool thing going on you will see as I get further in the process. The first is a mask, and gesso layer, the second photo is the collage layer, the third is a mess layer, and the fourth is the peeling off layer. This is where I just have to go with it and hope for the best. It always surprises me. I will continue and you can see what comes next. I am covered in paint, and paper and so on, the painting is outside drying so I thought I would share while a make a coffee and go back to it.
Acrylic paint, collage papers, on canvas, so far. 80 x 100 cm. So for the past while, I have been trying to deal with life. Sometimes that is a tough journey, don't you all agree? This is where my art saves me. I connect into the energy of the world or higher stuff or whatever works for you in this moment. I don't always know where I am supposed to go, or what I am supposed to do, I just have to feel whatever it is I need to feel and then move forward. Art gives me that time to think about it, or sometimes give me a break from it. Being in the moment. Ok enough, let's move forward.
this is a huge painting, 80 x 100 cm acrylic on canvas, reference my head, Reaching for her light. artist Robin Moulyn. This is one of my favourite paintings. I used the background to create the dark, and only brought out the highlights. For me, it gives a luminous effect. i also love the contrast of size between the dragonfly and bear. It takes my breath away.
Acrylic paint, Bear and Dragonfly, 80 cm x 100 cm. Ecuador artist: Robin Moulyn. I have always said that your face is the map of your life. For me I wish to have a face like this lady's face. She is joyful, and delighted with being alive. She has dignity and a light heart. She looks happy and free. I love her Unforgettable Face....I love going through my Unforgettable Faces photos to choose who I will do next. Believe me I have a huge file, I think it will take me a life time as I always add to the faces.
The Unforgettable Face was created using A3 Canson mixed media water colour paper, Winsor and Newton water colour markers, and Dr. Ph Martin Hydrus water colour paint. |
AuthorRobin Moulyn is an artist who mainly uses acrylic paint to share her thoughts of life, the universe and everything, mostly art though. Archives
