I wanted to add a thought to your day. Many artist become artist capable on only one media. Becoming skilled in one media is great, but what if. What if you subject requires something different or more? What if you want to convey a different message? Having skills in several media and either blending techniques for a multimedia project can work, but also only monochromatic (one color base or one color family by strongly restricting your color pallette.) I just wanted to add this thought. Each of the paintings are examples of that. I have used collage, watercolor, inks, watercolor markers, and colored pencils. Each of these media have required me to grow and learn the challenges of each of that media. Because I decided that I wanted to give a different feeling, the different approaches helped to expand not only me as an artist but, I hope, also to the observer. Where do these paintings take you? What does one painting give you that another one does not by the choice of materials and techniques used? I am not trying to blow my own horn, I just want to show people how different approaches help or deter the end result. I guess I just want artists to always feel the freedom to grow and realize the gift of expansion, and to have the courage to try and break out of perceived limitations. |
