Lady and Owl
Walking through the streets of Baños de Agua Santa, Tungurahua Ecuador, is always an adventure. I never know what I am going to see. I pack my camera, and at the ready, I start taking photos. I often end up feeling like a stalker, as I find a person with such an amazing face, I find myself compelled to get at least one photo that I can work with. Often I have to take 20 or more pictures to find the best possible one.
I raced in front of this woman hoping that I could manage to get her photo, and when the last opportunity passed to take more, I went to the park to check to see if I was lucky enough to have one. This time I was lucky, only one of the photos worked. I don't often take commissions as I know the feeling, mood and sharpness of the image I need to work from. Sometimes I will see an amazing face, and no mater what I do my camera goes on strike or I wiggle at the last moment or the person moves in a way that does not work well.
Every time I create an image, I fall a little in love with them. I need to do this to give the passion that only creating art can give. I feel if I do not have this connection the image suffers and lacks depth.
This image was created using Canson mixed media paper, A3, collage papers, homemade gesso, Dr PH Martin Bombay ink, Liquitex matte medium, and Winsor and Newton water colour markers, Letraset Aqua markers.
