Nautica
Some people are absolutely perfect to take a picture of. This fellow is one of those people who you can't take a bad photo of. I have seen this man for years in town and have tried for a long time to take his photo but couldn't until this day.
We were waiting for the bus at the terminal, when he was on the other side of the street. I quickly unpacked my camera and waved at him to see if he would let me take his picture. He waved happily for me to do it.
I don't know what he was doing or where he was going and we were definitely going in different directions, but I finally got his photo.
I painted this painting the whole time with a smile on my face.
A couple of months later, I found him and gave him his painting. I asked to take his photo with his painting and after a bit, he allowed me to.
Sometimes I forget how diminutive some of the Ecuadorian people are. (I am a Dutch/Canadian tall person so everyone seems small to me.) But this fellow has a big personality and he is such a sweet person on paper that I forgot how tiny he is. He was almost half the height of my partner....
This painting was created using Canson multi media paper, A3, Winsor Newton water colour markers, Letraset Aqua markers and rotring drawing ink, and homemade gesso.
