Old Woman in Pink
I feel quite privileged to be an artist and I really feel that way when it can bring a smile to someones' face.
Again I was in the park and saw this woman. I just had to draw her. The Ecuadorian culture is known for its machismo/male dominated culture, but when I look at this woman, I see power, inner strength and tenacity and not necessarily overly dominated. I see years of character and inner steel. It makes me wonder what her life has been like. I also want wrinkles in my own face, as it will be a map of my life and I hope it will show much joy and laughter, and yes also strength and tenacity. I want my face to show a life well lived.
Later, a man asked if he could look through my portfolio and check it out. When he was looking at it, he stopped and was shocked and happy and said that this one is his mom. I was so elated, I asked if he would come to an art attack we were having in a local coffee shop, and bring his mom so that I could give it to her.
This amazing powerful and wonderful woman showed up and I got to give this to her. She was one of my first return the art to the "Unforgettable Face". I said that I have been in the park taking pictures of unforgettable faces and this one is hers. I wanted her to see what I see. A strong beautiful natural face that maps a good life. She started to blush and cry a bit... me too. I am glad she inspired me to give the art back, I am forever grateful.
