Scarf
This is one of my favourite drawings and I never get bore of looking at it, neither grows old for me. I can look at it for long times and feel peace. This is the painting that started me on my "Unforgettable Faces" project. I am still looking for the owner of this face or her family, here in Baños, Tungurahua, Ecuador, to give this painting to her or them as a gift and as a thank you for her special presence in my arty little life.
I think that this is one of my most simplest portraits but also my most successful. I feel like I captured the mood, her essence and the moment with this painting. This sentiment really feels what she is about. Every painting I fall a little in love with the person, I can't help myself.
"Whenever we give from a place of love rather than a place of expectation more usually comes back to us than we could ever have expected or imagined." (I am not sure who to attribute this quote to.)
This painting was my first portrait using not only my colored pencils, but also playing with spray inks. I would have never thought to use spray inks but I was tired of always using white paper to color on. Living in Ecuador does not give you many options for paper choices. So changing the paper to be more interesting is a huge lesson for me.
This was the painting of saying I would like to do a project. But the painting also asked me how to do a project that would honor the people of Ecuador. This woman is the essence of my "Unforgettable Faces" project.
I have not yet found her to give this painting to her but I will keep looking. I have a lot to thank her for but also be grateful that she inspired me to share my art more.
This painting was created using heavy drawing paper, A3 school markers, alcohol, Faber Castel polychromos coloured pencil.
