Woman in Red Sweater
This was a lucky shot, I was in the market in Aluasi, the city in Ecuador where you can take the train to the Devil's nose. I honestly found that the market was more interesting than the train. Her was this wonderful woman who had this certain look that my grandmother used to give me. Every time I look at this painting I think of her. She had a lot of dignity but also an inner strength but kindness also.
I was walking and just happened to catch her quickly in a photo. I honestly thought that this was going to be a terrible one. But I got it, and in the original photo there is someone passing by so the photo was no good but it was wonderful to make a painting from. This is where art and painting can correct a design issue to create something wonderful.
I love the winsor and newton watercolour markers, they are so vibrant but can be so difficult to work with. For this effect they are so worth it.
