Yasuni
Here in Ecuador though we are very happy, we are not without our problems as well. The Yasuni park and its inhabitants are right now very unhappy. They are in ecological strife.
What I wanted to share is the beauty the powerful and the enduring natures of these people.
In our Baños de Agua Santa anniversary parade, the people from the Yasuni showed up and participated. It was a very courageous thing, as they also showed up in their natural attire that is completely suitable for where they live in the tropical jungle but not necessarily socially acceptable here. The women in this portrait is wearing plant fibre clothing, painting their faces with plant dyes and jewellery made of different jungle seeds. The Baños community were mixed reviews about acceptability and nudity....so you can imagine the varying responses. I for one was so proud of them for showing up as who they are and their culture and thought they are fabulous and elegant. So here is how I see them, to me they are amazing.
I invite you to research about what is happening in the Yasuni park and make your own conclusions...
